What it does

Dhoon researches the web, reads your documents, plans multi-step work, runs Python, and does scheduled jobs while you sleep. It runs on open models through Ollama, so your chats and files stay on your machine.

  • Runs on Ubuntu or Debian: a mini PC or an old desktop is enough (8 GB memory minimum)
  • Two assistants: a full one for multi-step work, a quick one for everyday questions
  • Searches, documents, Python, calendar, scheduled e-mails; new skills in a few lines of Python

Who it’s for#

People and small teams who want an AI assistant without sending their chats and files to an AI company: a mini PC, an old desktop or a home server is enough.

What stays on your computer, and what doesn’t#

Your chats, documents and the AI models stay on your machine. Dhoon goes online only for what you ask it to do: web searches and the pages it reads, market data, weather, and e-mails to addresses you approve.

Getting started#

The install command on this page works on Ubuntu 22.04 or later, or Debian 12 or later, logged in as your normal user. It asks for your password, downloads the models (allow 30 to 90 minutes), and ends with a login for the chat app at http://localhost:3080. You can read the install script before running it, and the beginner guide walks through every step.
